How to Select the Perfect Windshield Wipers

How to Select the Perfect Windshield Wipers

The factors of buying Wipers

Buying replacement blades isn't difficult or complicated, but there are still factors to consider, such as durability, ease of installation, and vehicle compatibility. Below, we've rounded up some of these factors to help you better understand the purpose of changing blades.

Premium Beam Blades

Premium blades will be more expensive than conventional blades. They usually come with an aerodynamic design with a contemporary, modern appearance. These Beam blades are often considered OEM, meaning they come off the factory line with these blades already installed.

Standard or Conventional Blades
Standard or Conventional windshield wipers are your most basic and cost effective choice. They come with a basic blade frame style, and can be found online and in most auto supply stores.

Get Your Owner’s Manual

First things first, and that is to grab your vehicles owner’s manual and find out more about the type of windshield wiper you’ll need. This should tell you the right size you’ll need. For instance, if you own a Ford Taurus, then Bosch and BaoYi make a rather nice vehicle specific wiper blade just for you.

The Right Size

This cannot be over emphasized, there is no sense even purchasing a blade that is the wrong size. To check for size, look at your user’s manual. If you don’t have your manual on hand, you can take a tape measure out and measure your wipers. Remember to measure all of your wipers, as some vehicles have different size blades for the driver’s side, rear window and passenger side.

Materials

If you are in the market for a durable wiper blade, then choose those soft wipers. They are more expensive, but will wear much better than conventional rubber. Soft wiper blades also wipe cleaner in rain and snow, and are much quieter and lighter. We strongly recommend that you stay away from wiper design that depends too much on steel, which are heavy to impact the life of wiper motor.

Climate

If you live in a climate known for heavy snow, there may not be enough for the whole season wipers, so check out the more durable ones designed for heavy snow. These wipers, known as winter wipers, are usually coated with teflon or graphite to enhance their durability.

Conclusion

As you can see, it's not hard to buy your own replacement wiper blade. Basically, remember the type of vehicle you have and whether the wiper is compatible with the vehicle. If you have any questions, please consult your owner's manual to find out what type and size of blade you need.

Keep in mind that usually the driver side, passenger side and rear wiper blades will be of different sizes. When you buy blades, be sure to buy one more set and keep them in the glove compartment in case of you need them.
