A few weeks before this visit, we had been exchanging messages with a distributor from the Dominican Republic. They were looking for a more stable windshield wiper blade supply for their customers in North America, but at that stage, most discussions were still based on photos and specifications.

After receiving some samples, they decided to come to China to see the production in person. As they mentioned later, it wasn’t a formal decision at first—it was more like “we need to understand how you actually work before we move forward.”
When they arrived at our factory in Xiamen on April 18, they didn’t spend much time in the office. After a short greeting, they walked directly toward the production floor.

I remember he didn’t ask anything at first, just watched the assembly line for a while and followed the workers’ steps quietly.
At one point, he suddenly asked, “If the rubber batch changes slightly, how do you notice it before shipping?” It wasn’t a prepared question, and we actually paused for a second before going into our quality control process. He asked again in a slightly different way, which showed he was more concerned about consistency than technical specifications.

During the visit, most of the discussion was not formal. He would stop randomly at different stations, sometimes pick up a finished blade, bend it lightly, and look at it without saying much.
In testing area, he asked whether this structure would still perform well in very hot and humid climates, since many of his customers are from Caribbean and southern US regions.
What stood out was not a single technical question, but how often he came back to the same concern—“returns from retail customers.” He explained that in his market, even small quality issues can quickly lead to distributor pressure from downstream shops.

There was also a small moment I still remember clearly. While checking packaging samples, he took one box, turned it around slowly, and said nothing for a few seconds. Then he said his retailers usually don’t care about complex design, but they do care whether product information is easy to read on the shelf.
Before leaving, he took several samples with him without confirming any order quantity. He said he would compare them with his current suppliers after returning home.

For now, the discussion is still open, but this visit gave both sides a much clearer understanding of expectations in his market.
